Eddie Levert and Dennis Edwards were competitors and close friends over the years in their amazing singing careers. Levert remembers his friend and all the good times they shared together.

Tom recalled all the times when Levert and Edwards would try to out sing each other backstage. “You guys tried to out sing each other every night,” laughed Tom.

“This had been going on with me and him ever since he was with the Temptations. We’d stay in the same hotel on tour. I’d come out of my room in the hotel and he’d come out of his and it almost seemed like we’d do it simultaneously,” explained Levert. “As soon as he saw me he’d get up in my face and do a 20,000 run. I mean hard. Just going hard. No audience. Just me and him in the hallway.”

But Levert was honored to be able to sing with Edwards. “I think it was always the admiration of each others talents,” expressed Levert. “All together man he was one of the great voices and as I got to know him as a person and as a friend he turned out to be one of the most beautiful people that you would want to know.”
