HERstory continues! 💪🏽✨
From Detroit to Conyers, Black women showed the world what leadership, resilience, and grace look like on Election Night 2025.

Across the country, several trailblazing women broke barriers and made history at the ballot box:

  • Mary Sheffield became Detroit’s first woman and first Black woman mayor, ushering in a new era of leadership for the Motor City.
  • Dorcey Applyrs made history as Albany’s first Black mayor, representing a powerful shift toward inclusive leadership in New York’s capital.
  • Vi Lyles secured her place as Charlotte’s second longest-serving mayor, continuing her legacy of service and stability in North Carolina.
  • And right here in Georgia, Connie Alsobrook became the first Black elected mayor of Conyers — marking a proud moment for our state and community. 🖤✨

According to Hill, director of data at the Center for American Women, the success of these leaders is no coincidence.

“When Black women run, they do win,” Hill said. “They have high win rates. At the congressional level, Black women have higher win rates than their counterparts.”

These victories are more than political milestones — they’re reminders of the power, persistence, and purpose that Black women continue to bring to every space they enter.

So today, we say congratulations — and a big thank you — to every woman who continues to fight for us, uplift our communities, and never back down. 💖

HERstory isn’t just being written — it’s being lived.
