Throwback Thursday: Battling Brothers — Jodeci vs. Dru Hill
Tonight on Classix at Nite with Donna, we’re turning back the clock and letting two legendary R&B groups go head-to-head — Jodeci vs. Dru Hill.
Both groups defined the sound of 90s R&B, but they did it in very different ways.
Jodeci came out of North Carolina with gospel roots, raw vocals, and that unmistakable bad-boy edge. They blended church harmonies with hip-hop swagger and created a sound that changed the culture. When Forever My Lady dropped in 1991, it didn’t just introduce a group — it introduced an era. The song became their first #1 R&B hit and set the tone for passionate, emotional, and unapologetically grown slow jams.
Meanwhile, Dru Hill brought Baltimore flavor to the scene with polished harmonies, sharp style, and undeniable vocal chemistry. Named after Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, the group quickly rose to fame in the mid-90s. Their debut single Tell Me introduced audiences to Sisqó’s distinctive lead and the group’s smooth, confident energy. It was modern, romantic, and instantly memorable — a perfect soundtrack for the mid-90s love story.
Tonight’s battle features:
Tell Me — Dru Hill
Forever My Lady — Jodeci
Two different vibes. Two iconic sounds. One unforgettable R&B showdown.
So the question is…
Are you riding with Jodeci’s raw, emotional passion?
Or Dru Hill’s smooth, polished harmonies?
