Charles Barkley once again proved why he’s one of television’s most unpredictable personalities.

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, Cardi B took center stage for a star-studded halftime performance that had fans on their feet. The Bronx native performed several of her biggest hits while helping turn the Knicks’ first Finals game at MSG in more than two decades into a major celebrity event.

But while fans were focused on the music, Barkley had social media focused on something else.

As cameras showed Cardi B performing, “Inside the NBA” host Ernie Johnson joked that the broadcast crew was competing with the rapper for viewers’ attention. Barkley quickly admitted defeat before delivering a classic Chuck one-liner.

“I don’t know if those B’s. They might be Cardi D’s,” Barkley joked. “I’m pretty sure those aren’t B’s. She has the wrong initials.”

The comment immediately sent his co-hosts into hysterics and quickly began circulating across social media, where many fans called it another example of Barkley’s trademark no-filter humor.

Cardi B’s appearance added even more star power to an already packed night at Madison Square Garden. The rapper was also spotted courtside enjoying the game with her son before taking the stage for halftime.

While the Knicks’ Finals hopes took a hit with the loss, Cardi B delivered a memorable performance—and Barkley delivered one of the night’s most viral moments.

When it comes to live television, few people can create a headline quite like Charles Barkley.
