MC Lyte Honored for Fighting for Artists to Get Paid

MC Lyte is getting her flowers for work that goes far beyond the microphone. The hip-hop pioneer has received SoundExchange’s Music Fairness Award for decades of advocacy on behalf of recording artists. Lyte has been pushing Congress to pass the American Music Fairness Act, which would establish performance royalties for artists when their recordings are played on terrestrial AM/FM radio. Her advocacy stretches back to the late 1980s, and in 2026 she has continued taking the fight to Capitol Hill. Read more here!
