We’ve always learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad that she created to help slaves escape to freedom. We know the significance of that route but do we actually know the way?

Girl Trek co-founders Vanessa Garrison and T.Morgan Dixon and a group of supporters are walking the first 100 miles of Harriet Tubman’s Underground Railroad.

“If you hear a little bit of noise in the background it’s because we are walking on the Underground Railroad. We have gone 61 miles and we are going to do another 20 miles,” explained Garrison.

The organization has touched the lives of so many Black women since it’s start in 2010.

“We have about 120,000 Black women in Girl Trek.  Officially the largest health organization for Black women in the country,” explained Dixon. “We have committed to rallying one million Black women in the next two years.”

Both Garrison and Dixon are dedicated to sharing the message of their organization to all who will listen.

“We have a spiritual inheritance that just flows through our blood,” expressed Dixon. “This ain’t nothing compared to the road we’ve travelled.”

If you’d like to be a part of this movement, join the Girl Trek girls all over the country by walking on Harriet Tubman Day Saturday March 10. Take a picture and tag it with #HarrietsGreatEscape.
