Some people have a lot of questions about Georgia’s Shelter in Place Order:

Here are some answers:

When does it begin and how long does it last?

The executive order starts at 6 p.m. on Friday April 3,2020. It lasts until 11:59 p.m. on Monday April 13, 2020. The governor can extend the order if the state of emergency he declared on March 14 is extended.

What does shelter in place mean?
It means that residents and visitors to Georgia must remain in their homes and take all precautions to limit social interaction.
What are the exceptions?

  • If you engaging in an essential service. This means if you are getting essential supplies (food/medicine etc) for your household and you are keeping a six foot distance between you and others you do not live with. You can go to the grocery store, the doctor, the pharmacy, pick up food from restaurants. You can exercise outside. You can also pick up supplies to maintain and clean your house. The key is consolidating trips and staying home as often as possible.

What businesses must close during the executive order?

  • Bars/Nightclubs
  • Gyms/Fitness Centers
  • Bowling Alleys
  • Theaters/Performance Venues
  • Amusement Parks
  • Waxing, threading, beauty shop, barber shop, cosmetic treatments, cosmetology/hair design/nail care schools
  • Massage therapists

What about a daycare?

The governor has allowed for all licensed child care facilities to remain open however he asks that they limit a classroom to ten people, including caregivers.
