Vassier Serrano
10:00am - 3:00pm
Vassier Serrano is an experienced broadcast professional and voice actor.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in a broken family, riddled with drug use and physical and verbal abuse; at the age of 14, she would ultimately end up a ward of the state of South Carolina and living in foster care.
In her early years, she found an ally in the therapeutic sound of Cleveland’s WZAK 93.1 FM under the voice of a DJ, Lynn Tolliver. While finding her escape in the music, she would also find her gift; her voice. As Vassier grew older, she began to seek out ways to attain the freedom she found in surrendering to the rotation of the music and the voices that came across the airwaves. She also found herself intrigued by the execution of daily, local news reporting. So, at the age of 16, she sought out to find her own mentors: Terry “Base” Bryant and Tessa Spencer of Charleston Radio Station, Foxie 104.5 FM and then Charleston News Reporter, Angela Brown. After spending some time contemplating what form of media spoke to her more, she began her life-long love affair with the microphone, as radio won by a knockout!
Over the past 32 years, Vassier has worked for Citadel Broadcasting (now Cumulus Media), Clear Channel Communications, Cox Media Group, Sheridan Broadcasting and FUBU Radio. She has also provided her vocal talents for clients like Miami University of Ohio, Cigna Healthcare, InventHelp, RYSE Interactive, Cellec Games and many more. However, her talents do not stop there. In 2013, Vassier was asked to be the original Host and Associate Producer of a new online e-News show, My iZonOrlando (Orlando, Florida), where she interviewed guest such as Radio Personality and Author, Michael Baisden; Al Jazeera America News Anchor, Richelle Carey; and WWE Royalty, Stephanie McMahon and Paul “Triple H” LeVesque to name a few.
When asked, why she believes the power of the voice is so vital, Vassier explains, “While having a pleasing voice may beckon the ear of a listener, having a message is the real power. I know that having a recognizable voice and face provide you a platform and a certain level of credibility. I want to use that platform and credibility to speak to young people in abusive circumstances to enlighten them about their value and purpose. I could stand on a street corner daily speaking my experiences; few will listen. However, if they recognize me and understand that I can relate to their current condition, well, that allows for a different outcome. I want to be a part of their ‘DIFFERENT’.”
You can hear Vassier as one of the weekend voices, Saturday 3PM-7PM and Sunday 10AM – 3PM, on CLASSIX 102.9 in Atlanta.
