If you haven’t heard, Roland Martin got a part on the hit BET show The Quad and can’t stop talking about it. He’ll be in the February 13 show playing himself, but representing the Tom Joyner Morning Show!

Excited for the première of this episode, Roland talks with creator of The Quad Felicia Henderson and actors Zoe Renee and Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith.

“I thought you were trying to get on my show as the writer,” laughed Henderson. “I was very happy I didn’t not think it would be as easy…We could actually use the real Tom Joyner Morning Show and you repped it well.”

The episode features Martin on tour to various HBCU’s and when he stops at GAMU some drama breaks out.

“He’s repping and he’s acting and he’s also trying to get an Emmy,” explained Henderson of Martin’s acting skills. “We’re really trying to keep it real. I have a wonderful writing staff and not only do we have HBCU alums on the writing staff but our DP is an amazing young man who went to Howard and to the crew.”

Zoe Renee plays Noni Williams a very versatile character who happens to be very talented. “She (Henderson) wanted to create a character that was multitalented and real.”

Tom loves the fact that show touches on some important issues at HBCU’s like funding and hazing. Actor Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith resonated with what Tom said.

“We started with that in the first season as well with the band hazing,” explained Smith. “That really touched home to me because I went to Florida A&M and there was a situation up there.”

Make sure you tune in to Roland’s début on The Quad on BET February 13 at 9 p.m. central.
