Thousands of women facing violence at home during the shelter-in-place era. Uber is stepping up and offering 50,00 free rides, free food to shelter for domestic abuse victims. Uber also will provide 45,000 free meals to survivors via donations to shelters.

 

One in 4 women and 1 in 7 men are on track to experience physical violence by their intimate partner at some point during their lifetimes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Experts say victims may have a harder time escaping during the coronavirus crisis as public transportation is limited and money is tight.
